For some obscure reason it has taken longer than usual for fans to finally accept — Real Shona — as one of the fastest growing musical talents.
Arguably, the biggest find so far this year, Real Shona continues to push boundaries showcasing his lyrical prowess in Zim hip-hop as well as Zim dancehall. .
The 21-year-old is set for a bright future considering his levelheadedness and also hunger for success.
He takes himself seriously and also his craft although it hasn’t been straddling between popular genres — Zim hip-hop and Zim dancehall.
“I do urban new age music which is an umbrella term for someone who does dancehall, Afro beat and hip-hop.
“Right now I have one EP which is called Chibaba Chembudzi and nine singles in my name in which one of them was produced by Jusa Dementor.
“Well I see myself being one of the fastest growing most loved and booked brand in the country,” he enthused.
He says he managed to form a close bond by being able to unify and relate with the youth through his music because “it isn’t always easy, but with some communication and modeling I am able to gently influence the youths to believe in themselves.”
Real Shona said his music is inspired by the ghetto [where i grew up]. If you listen to his music you will hear a lot of youth struggles and gender based violence.
“First of all Urban Grooves gave birth to me but I always had a calling when it comes to rap music, I guess that’s why I started off a hip-hop artist and then as time went on I fell in love with dancehall music,” he explained.
But his career music started after joining several groups at the time which in turn influenced his vibe.
“I used to be in a hip-hop group called Upperklass and we did a song called Real Shona nekandebele flavour by that time I used to go by the name Shagga Boy, so when we decided to go our separate ways, I felt it was time for me to rebrand so I decided to call myself Real Shona.
“Issues of gender based violence and child abuse that are happening in communities all over the country inspired me to do the Song Called Waunotsigira,” he said in reference to his popular track Waunotsigira.
Regarding where he is headed, Real Shona, says he will wait for as long it takes.
“Only God knows but I will remain patient, consistent and grateful for the gift he placed upon me.
“My commitment to achieving goals via the process of productive and efficient teamwork.
“I got a whole lot of collaborations coming up but they are all meant to be surprises,” he said.
Asked how he is putting himself out there in terms of music and reaching out to fans Real Shona said it was about spirited effort.
“The same effort I put in my work is the same effort I put on my social media platforms, when I’m not in the studio I’m on social media, so I can say they both work hand in hand, one cannot do without the other,” he said.
As a parting shot, Real Shona said he owed his success to fans and his team.
