HARARE – Concord For Young Women in Business today held a Mother’s Day Special Seminar titled Empower Her in Harare, drawing hundreds of women for a day of inspiration, empowerment, and practical support.
The event featured a keynote address by Ambassador Apphia Musavengana, founder and president of the organization, alongside guest speaker Miss Universe Zimbabwe Lyshanda Moyas.
Speaking before a packed audience, Ambassador Musavengana paid tribute to the country’s First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, for paving the way for young women’s empowerment.
“As part of Young Women in Business Global, we are doing various programmes, but we really want to thank our First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, for already cleaning the road for us and putting the carpet,” Musavengana said.
“She has done very well in making sure we end teenage pregnancy, and those young girls are no longer into drugs. Those that were addicted to drugs are already rehabilitated at the Parent Rehabilitation Centre.”
Musavengana emphasized that the government has already laid a strong policy foundation, making Concord’s work a matter of implementation rather than starting from scratch.
“We are already working on a swift road, and ours is only to make sure that we work with those policies that have already been put across by the government,” she said.
“We are here to empower young girls so that they avoid teen and unwanted pregnancies.”
The seminar specifically targeted teenagers and young women who had experienced teen pregnancies, offering them both practical and financial support.
In a significant boost to the cause, Musavengana announced that the Bridging Gaps Foundation run by Dr Kuda and Sandra Tagwirei has offered to pay school fees for children of young mothers.
Additionally, US$1,000 was donated to the Johanne Masowe Echishanu Velvet Branch to help them start an income-generating project.
