KARIBA – A community is in mourning after a tragic encounter between man and nature ended in death.
Danmore, a mentally challenged man, was killed by an elephant in Kariba’s Kasese area, a devastating incident that has sparked urgent calls for stronger wildlife protection.
His body was discovered in a heartbreaking state—torn trousers, a stone clutched in his right hand, and signs that he had been dragged by the giant animal.
Witnesses say he was on his way to Nyamhunga when the attack happened, and his remains have since been taken to Kariba Hospital for a postmortem.
“This is a painful loss. No one deserves to die like this,” a local resident said, describing the shock and fear that now grips the community.
A Growing Danger
Danmore’s tragic death is not an isolated incident. Just days earlier, a ZimParks ranger was killed by an elephant at Gatche Gache fishing camp, and in another frightening attack, a woman was mauled by a hyena near a quarry compound. These escalating human-wildlife conflicts are leaving locals fearful for their safety.
Authorities are urging residents to be extra cautious and report wildlife sightings immediately. However, the community is demanding urgent action beyond just warnings.
“We need real solutions,” a concerned community leader said. “People are dying, and something must be done to protect us while respecting these animals’ space.”
As investigations continue, residents remain on edge, hoping that this tragedy will be the turning point that finally leads to real, lasting measures to prevent further loss of life in this wildlife-rich region.
