One of Zimbabwe’s most seasoned theatre practitioners, Daves Guzha, is making a return to the stage with a fiery new production titled Bodo—a Shona word meaning “No.”
The play is set to premiere at Theatre in the Park from April 8 to 11, with showtimes starting at 6pm.
Carrying the tagline, “Some matters deserve a fireside conversation,” Bodo hints at themes that cut to the core of issues often left unspoken—whether political, economic, or deeply personal.
While details of the plot remain under wraps, early indications suggest the production probes beyond the surface, inviting audiences into a space of reflection and difficult dialogue.
In a brief teaser, Guzha offered a glimpse into the philosophical underpinnings of the work.
“Power derives from the people and belongs to the people, and the people alone choose their leaders. That must remain the same,” he said.
“I am only a storyteller, sarungano. But my stories are informed by the ancient wisdom of our forebears.”
Guzha, a towering figure in Zimbabwean theatre known for his bold storytelling and commanding stage presence, has long used his craft to engage with society’s most pressing questions.
With Bodo, he appears poised to continue that tradition—this time, around the proverbial fireside.
Audiences can expect a production that balances artistry with substance, delivered by one of the country’s most respected voices in the performing arts.
