Chinhoyi- In a significant step towards embracing renewable energy, Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to establish a Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Mashonaland West Province.

The STAR Centre will serve as a one-stop facility for capacity building, testing, standardization, and incubation, providing expertise to Zimbabwe and promoting the adoption of renewable energy technologies as announced by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere during a cabinet briefing

This initiative aims to drive the country’s transition from fossil fuels to sustainable and clean energy.

The centre will champion education and awareness programs, empowering individuals and communities to harness the potential of solar energy.

“By fostering a culture of sustainability, the STAR Centre will contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic growth and environmental conservation.

This development aligns with Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and development.” Minister Muswere told the media after Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting

The establishment of the STAR Centre marks a new era for Mashonaland West Province, positioning it as a hub for innovation and sustainable energy solutions.

As Zimbabwe continues to explore ways to harness its natural resources, the STAR Centre will play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s energy future.

“The University’s Innovation Hub will deliver expertise to Zimbabwe, acting as a catalyst for economic growth and development.

By providing a platform for capacity building, testing, and incubation, the hub will empower entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators to develop and implement sustainable energy solutions,” he said
