Remakes can either become hits or misses.
But when a song is remade or remixed it can also disappoints as much as it excites.
So, when I got wind of the upcoming single by Cindy Munyavi I got a bit nervous.
Last night, I got a call from one my favorite female artists and friend Cindy Munyavi.
It was one of those random calls and when she does that haaaa chinosara chine mudzimu wacho, we talk about everything.
Last night she had some exciting news, I had been on her case for a while now about new music.
And you guessed it she’s got a new track coming soon.
It drops tomorrow 24 November and it is her birthday too!
Now there are many exciting twists on this song. Its called “Handiende” and yes, there are no prizes for guessing, its Cindy’s take on legend Steve Dhongi Makoni’s classic by the same name.
Three generations converge on this song.
Handiende was written by Steve ‘Dhongi’ Makoni, Cindy herself and the king of heartbreaks and break up songs, Kae Chaps.
Qonfuzed and Mcneto also contributed to Handiende. This clearly the strongest bit about this song, it is well written.
Basically in the song Cindy is saying “Nyangwe ukandivharira panze, handiende. Ukauya uchindipomera zvipande, handiende.”
And Kae Chaps responds “Kana uchinditi haunde, unenge urikuda kuzama kudi? Dai warongedza mukwende, gara wangobvuma defeat.”
Nice take on a classic, I’m sold.
Produced by Rayobeats and engineered by Tamie Bimha, the song also has a nice touch of another golden oldie from the legendary Zig Zag Band, the classic “Gomo Ramasare.”
