HARARE – The Chibuku Road to Fame (CRTF) provincial competitions delivered sizzling performances this past weekend, as Chitima Band and DNA Band lit up the stage at Makuluwane Bar, securing their spots in the CRTF National Finals.
It was a scorching afternoon of Afro-fusion and high-energy showdowns, with bands battling for both bragging rights and big rewards under the sweltering summer heat
. In the end, Chitima Band — representing Harare — and Mashonaland Central’s DNA Band emerged victorious, each walking away with US$2,500 and a golden ticket to the national finale.
“We’ve worked hard as a band. Our compositions are well thought out, and we’re always finding new ways to entertain,” said Charles Chakanetsa, leader of the Budiriro-based Chitima Band, formed in 2023. The six-member outfit blends powerful vocals with rich instrumental backing, led by two dynamic female vocalists.
In the Mashonaland Central showdown, Shanda Band claimed second place (US$1,500), while Mt Darwin Stars, a sungura ensemble, took third (US$1,000). Meanwhile in Harare, Khaya Lami Band (Afro-fusion) and Rimi Band (traditional) took second and third place respectively.
A Milestone Celebration: 25 Years of Talent Discovery
The 2025 edition of Chibuku Road to Fame marks a bold return — bigger, better, and more unforgettable than ever, as the country’s longest-running music talent search celebrates 25 years of discovering Zimbabwe’s musical gems.
Held in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), CRTF has evolved into a cultural institution — one that empowers artists, elevates genres, and gives township talent a national stage.
“This platform isn’t just about the music,” said Irimayi Muzorewa, Marketing Director at Delta Corporation. “It’s about uplifting the arts and giving emerging artists the tools and spotlight they need to succeed.”
What’s New in 2025?
This year’s competition brings exciting changes. For the first time, 20 bands from across the country will compete in six consolidated provincial events, each producing a top three who will proceed to the Grand Finale. Only the best of the best will battle it out for national fame and significant cash prizes.
Running from August 23 to October 4, the 2025 edition carries the theme:
“25 Years of Discovering Talent” — a nod to the festival’s enduring legacy in shaping Zimbabwe’s musical future.
As anticipation builds for the national finals, all eyes are now on the rising stars ready to carry Zimbabwe’s sound into the next generation.
