Chihure Hachisekanwe: A new controversial song on prostitution out now!

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

Prostitution or what is also known as s_x work is an old profession.

Whenever prostitution is talked about it is looked down upon although in the majority of cases it leads to marriage. This is perhaps what the song is about.

Many a times prostitution has sustained lives to the extent that s_x workers have turned it into full time jobs although others still do it on a part time basis.

So the new controversial song Chihure Hachisekanwe is doing the rounds on social media.

Performed by a group called Team Chihera, Chihure Hachisekanwe urges people to not look down on prostitution worse still when you don’t know what tomorrow holds.

The message is that today you might be laughing at prostitutes but tomorrow it could be you or anyone.

In fact, the fact, the song bodes well with Shona idiom which says “Seka urema wafa” meaning to say “Disability can happen to anyone for as long as you are still alive.”

So if you are still living be careful of what might befell for only the heaven knows maybe you think you are engaging in prostitution but end up in marriage.

The video begins with the scantily dressed dancers gyrating in slow movement. Then the lead singer sings zvakatanga muchcichaya mapoto muchiti mvana dzese maingoti mahure/ nhasi mapoto enyu abooka/ chihure hachisekanwe mangwana uchahurawo/ basa tagara naro /unotanga akadhakwa emerina, mwangwana ucahhurawo achihera, mangwana uchahurawo, basa tagara naro/PTK chihure hachisekanwe.

While the visuals look like they were taken by an amateur it is the message that will make you to stop and listen.

The lyrics are not too but only the hooks and chorus warming people not to laugh at prostitution. Indeed, the song takes us to the basics about song composition.

It is about the subject and not the instrumentation at times but Team Chihera did well in addressing this social vice.
