Cedarwood Memorial Trust is set to donate sanitary wear, towels, and soap to girls at Kuhondo Secondary School in Mount Darwin next month.
The initiative, approved by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education aims to support the female students at the school by providing essential hygiene products to ensure their health, well-being, and dignity.
Access to menstrual hygiene products is a critical issue facing many young girls in Zimbabwe, with implications for their education and overall quality of life.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), says about one in every ten school-age African girls didn’t attend school during menstruation.
Cedarwood Memorial Trust is committed to addressing the challenge and supporting the girls at Kuhondo Seconday School in their educational journey.
“In light of this donation drive, Cedarwood Memorial Trust is appealing to individuals, donors, and companies to contribute towards this cause by donating sanitary wear, towels, and soap. “Your support will make a significant difference in the lives of these young girls, empowering them to stay in school and pursue their dreams without hindrance. Also, of the benefit of their health and hygiene, so that they won’t use rags, newspapers or grass during their menstrual periods.
“We believe that every girl deserves access to proper hygiene products to support her education and well-being. By coming together as a community, we can make a positive impact on the lives of these students at Kuhondo School,” said Shamiso Yadyo nee Mupeto, the Secretary of Cedarwood Memorial Trust. She further said, “I am a former student of Kuhondo Secondary School and I witnessed the period poverty in this impoverished and remote area in Zimbabwe.”
