Agora Club Zimbabwe, the local chapter of an international woman’s group will this Friday hand over equipment including washing machines, event chairs and sewing and catering equipment to Rafiki a training center for disadvantaged girls.
The handover follows a successful Bridgerton-dress themed fundraiser earlier this month which raised the funds through the generous support of many local sponsors.
ACZ which was formed in ZImbabwe in 2016 has chosen to work with Rafiki for the last year, part of its long-standing initiative to uplift and help build up institutions that work with children.
Rafiki is a Harare based institution which provides training for 120 girls in hotel and catering, tailoring, interior design, cosmetology and general life skills to disadvantaged girls every year.
“Our current partnership with Rafiki Girls Centre, aligns perfectly with our motto for the year -‘Building for Sustainable Growth’. Rafiki provides a platform where young girls are empowered to look after themselves with the skillsets they are learning,” said ACZ current president Chido Musasiwa.
The handover coincides with the celebration of World Cleanup Day. To highlight its commitment to the environment.
Agora is partnering with Rafiki Girls Centre to clean up Fife Avenue Shopping Centre and its surroundings before the donation.
Rafiki girls will also present an upcycled material fashion show.
“Everyone including journalists are invited to join us in this community driven initiative that will offer an opportunity to interact with the Agora and Rafiki and learn more about both our organisation’s missions,” Musasiwa said.
Agora Club Zimbabwe is a voluntary service club for women over 40 years of age and the first Zimbabwe chapter of the international women’s service group Agora Club International which is represented in over 20 countries which since 1987 has built better communities through service.
Since its formation in 2016, Agora Club ZImbabwe has initiated many community projects. In 2017, it screened hundreds of children and distributed 250 self-adjusting reading glasses to those in need sourced by our mother body in Europe in collaboration with its partner Eyes for the World.
