A Taste of Zimbabwe: Flavours Take Centre Stage in Berlin

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

Recently crowned Destination of the Year by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), Zimbabwe served up a vibrant slice of its culinary heritage at ITB Berlin 2026 in Germany, drawing crowds eager to experience the country’s rich food culture.

At the bustling Zimbabwe stand, the aroma of traditional dishes quickly attracted waves of international visitors.

Guests gathered around the pavilion to sample a variety of mouthwatering Zimbabwean signature meals, each bite offering a delicious introduction to the nation’s diverse flavours and culinary traditions.

The lively showcase turned the stand into one of the exhibition’s most engaging attractions, highlighting gastronomy as a powerful tourism asset.

Curious travellers were not only eager to taste the food but also to learn about how it is prepared and the cultural stories behind it.

Many visitors lingered longer than expected, and some even returned for second servings after falling in love with the distinctive flavours.

The initiative is the brainchild of the Patron of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa.

As part of the Culture and Heritage Tourism Cluster, the programme is helping position Zimbabwe’s food culture as a compelling gateway for travellers seeking authentic, immersive experiences.

Beyond its famed wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, Zimbabwe is increasingly inviting the world to discover another side of the destination—one told through its kitchens, its traditions, and the irresistible flavours that bring its culture to life.
