Zimbabwe’s seasoned saxophonist Philip Svosve says when he started out music it was almost like a hobby but with passage of time it became his career path.
The Jabavu Drive leader celebrates his 54th year in music this Saturday on May 21, 2022 at the popular Sherwood Golf Club from 6pm until late.
“When I started, it was like something just for fun but as time went by I realized that that’s my career,” Svosve explained to Gem Nation News.
But 54 isn’t a short time so how did he manage to survive this long in the ever changing music industry.
“Well 54 in the industry, I feel like there’s something musical in my bones,” he said.
According to Svosve, self-discipline has been at the core of his longevity in the industry.
“Well maybe discipline, self-discipline,” he enthused
One of his career highlights include playing and recording with Dr Thomas Mapfumo, Dr Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi, James Chimombe ,and many others.
Philip Svosve has three albums up his sleeves namely, Mukomana Wekuseri, Jabavu Drive and Chinhoyi.
He has also groomed a three youngsters who are great musicians in their own right and are following in Svosve’s footsteps.
The revered saxophonist will be backed by Jabavu Drive, a group which he has worked with over the years.
“I’m so excited to work with Philip Svosve for more than 15 years and until today the relationship still stands.
“It is a special day to all patrons who are going to attend the gig, surely they are not going to be disappointed. Expect fireworks on the day,” said Marcy.
Marcy will perform back to back with Jabavu Drive for what promised to be a thrilling night of music and dance.
