Organizers of Jazz and Soul Friday Night Concerts Rooftop Promotions and Dollarbill Entertainment announced that Kelly Rusike and the Jazz Invitation band will perform at Theatre in the Park.
The concert will start at 7pm until 10pm on Friday April 8, 2022.
Rusike told Capitalk 100.4 FM’s Glenda Fadzai Takachicha that his team is prepared for the show on Friday.
The spokesperson of the organizing institutions; Rooftop Promotions and Dollarbill Entertainment Passmore Ndlovu has encouraged the public to book the tickets for the show in advance.
Kelly Rusike is a Zimbabwean jazz and soul musician who leads the Jazz Invitation Band.
The band has been in existence for over a decade.
The concept, Jazz Invitation was originally conceived by veteran Zimbabwe drummer Sam Mataure, who initially ‘invited’ different musicians to play at mini festivals around the country. Apart from having a wide appeal, it brought together musicians of varied styles and tastes.
Jazz Invitation members have performed on global platforms sharing the stage with big names from Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Rosalla Miller to Louis Mhlanga to Randy Crawford, UB 40, Ringo Mandlingozi and others.
They have performed at the prestigious Italian Jazz Festival and Harare Jazz Festival sharing the stage with Hugh Masekela and Amanda La Banda from Italy. They have also had a three-month stint at the prestigious L’Attitude, Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates in 2015. Kelly Rusike has two solo albums out in his name; Collaboration and the more recent Ikosore.
As a bassist and vocalist, Rusike had a six-month stint in Ibiza, Spain from April to October 2017 with the renowned Lucy and Phillips band. He also had another six-month stint with the same band in Mallorca, Spain in 2018 which he says got him a global musical experience.
According to the concert organizers, the platform remains very accessible to all Zimbabwean artists. Next week, mbira fusion star Nancy Mutize affectionately known as Nasibo will be performing on Friday April 15 on the same platform at Theatre in the Park.
Admission is $10, however advance tickets are being sold at only $5. The organizers are encouraging the public to book their tickets in advance on 0774232478 or 0772566193.
Bookings can also be done at their offices at Theatre in the Park in the Harare Gardens from 9am to 6pmuntil Friday.
