According to one postulant Zim dancehall died with the death of Soul Jah Love.
But who was Soul Jah Love? How much did he contribute to the growth of Zim dancehall and how relevant was his music?
Of course, these are some of the questions fans ask.
Soul Jah Love real name Soul Musaka died aged 31 in February of 2021 upon arrival at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare.
A post-mortem confirmed his long battle with diabetes.
The star was known for his huge presence on and off the stage was known for his powerful delivery on every song.
Most of his songs were instant hits and more often than not his lyrics would be used in street lingo.
From Chibaba, Makuruwani to Ngwendeza all these names and sobriquets were used to describe his demeanor.
Arguably one of the pioneers to elevate Zim dancehall to much higher levels.
He had his grip on Zim dancehall so much so that at any given event he would draw attention.
Sadly, Soul Jah Love is not with us anymore but there are other contemporaries who are bound to continue with his legacy.
Seveal names have been thrown around including Kinnah, who grew up with Soul Jah Love and shared the stage with him.
Kinnah who is lovingly called Mr Mbare, from where he grew up is no pushover when it comes to Zim dancenhall.
Popularly known for his chant Seh Magodess, Kinnah is one of the popular artists in the genre.
Although he has a medical condition, Kinnah does not let that condition come in between his craft.
He makes sure he gives his all on stage and even his music delivery cannot be compared to any other artists.
For this reason, he has lined up a massive birthday bash where he cherry picked some of the amazing voiced in Zim dancehall.
Several top Zim dancehall artistes are billed to perform at Kinnah’s Birthday Bash slated for the Harare Gardens on Saturday April 9.
Already the gig has been dubbed” The Long Awaited Show” considering it’s the first such gig bringing a diverse line up.
The bash put together by renowned Chipaz Promotions has been long time coming since the country went into lockdown.
And if its Chipaz Promotions fans and artistes alike know it is a must attend bash considering the competitiveness of the line-up.
Kinna has worked with Chipaz Promotions for a long time and the chanter has been on their roster for long too.
And to spice the line-up Chipaz Promotions have gathered several heavy hitters on the scene these include, award-winning Nutty O, Seh Calaz, Enzo Ishall, Dadza D, Guspy Warrior, Hwindi President, Shinsoman, Silent Killer, Blot, uncle Epaton, Bazooker, Jah Master, Hwinza, Poptain, Lady Squanda, Kadija and Ital Fire.
Also on the ones and twos, there is going to the more fire with the DJs and selectors among them Garry B and Templeman, Etherton Beenie, Merciless Zimbabwe, Chipaz Sound, ChillSPot Family, Tipple Spliffers, DJ Cables and MC Ganzo.
Admission to the show is US$5 all round.
