Zimbabwe’s musician Winky D Friday dropped his latest video — Happy Again — after almost a year without putting new music out.
While in the build up to the release date December 17, Winky D and his management went all out teasing fans with his new body of work.
The hype reached fever pitch with Gaffas, his fan base, excited that the Gafa President would finally releasing the Christmas anthem.
But no sooner had he released his song did the war of words on social media media start.
There have been gifs, memes, posts and skits by believers and non-believers that the song is worse than nothing.
Interestingly, both MDC Alliance and Zanu PF have taken sides regarding #Happy Again.
Fans, especially those who have supported Winky D for the longest applaud him for once again, for taking his craft a notch up in terms of visuals.
Frankly speaking, the visuals are out of this world in fact, Winky D has gone back to the wild western type of movies as typified by the outfits.
The scenery and the camera work was excellently executed. The only thing that is amiss perhaps is that Winky D has slide into yawing abyss with Happy Again.
It is a feel good song YES, but then it is lukewarm, it is not Zim dancehall something that strikes you from the first note.
Why is Winky D moving away from Zim dancehall a genre that put him on the spotlight? And what sort of music is Winky D now singing?
Happy Again is a love song in fact, he seems to have been inspired by Bob Marley who first gave us Three Little Birds.
On Happy Again, Winky D sings about the three little words which means I Love You.
While there is nothing really bad about the song perhaps it is the timing. We have so far heard good music from the likes of Nutty O who released a whole solid album.
And the problem is fans wanted something equal to Nutty O’s Mustard Seed or better.
