HARARE – State-owned mobile network operator NetOne says it has expanded its network coverage to between 85 and 90 percent of Zimbabwe’s population as it continues investing in digital infrastructure to support national economic development.
Addressing delegates at the Mid-Term Economic Review and High-Level Policy Dialogue, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Engineer Raphael Mushanawani said the company has positioned itself as more than a telecommunications provider.
“We are custodians of strategic national infrastructure,” he said.
Eng Mushanawani said NetOne has connected millions of Zimbabweans through continued investment in network modernisation and resilience.
“Our coverage has expanded to reach over 85 to 90 percent of the population, while our subscriber base now exceeds four million users,” he said.
He said these investments were designed to improve productivity across the economy rather than simply increasing connectivity.
“These are not just investments in connectivity. They are investments in national productivity.”
The NetOne chief executive said expanding telecommunications infrastructure enables farmers to access markets and weather information, supports automation in the mining sector and improves efficiency across industries.
He said the company remains committed to expanding broadband services, particularly in underserved rural communities, while investing in digital platforms for education, health and financial inclusion.
“As part of the Mutapa Investment Fund portfolio, we recognise that our responsibility goes beyond commercial success,” Eng Mushanawani said.
He added that every investment in digital infrastructure creates multiplier effects by attracting investment, improving competitiveness and fostering innovation across sectors.
“We do not see ourselves as spectators in economic transformation—we see ourselves as architects.”
