REVIEW: Mzoe7 goes harder with Mjolo the Pandemic

By Jonathan Mbiriyamveka

Talented musician — Mzoe7 aka Mr Gagagugu — continues to push the envelope far and wide with the release of a new video – Mjolo the Pandemic.

The 30-year-old award winning musician continues to churn some beautiful sounds delighting his fans.

Note that it is called Mjolo not Umjolo as some have suggested.

The song has a brilliant video which basically tells the story of dating.

The video was inspired by the daily problems that people encounter in relationships. A lot of people no longer genuinely love but only look for material gains and money. A married woman leaves her husband for Mbingaldo only to realize she blundered after a day or two of beer bingeing.

The song also touches on appreciating each other when we are still alive.

“We have seen most people being celebrated when they have left the earth/dead of which it’s a good thing but let’s also celebrate them when they still alive.

“People are hardly given their flowers whilst they are still alive their good deeds are only mentioned when they are dead. Hence the lyrics (Havakupe uchirikugona, Sando dzako uchiri kurarama),” explained Mzoe7.

The beat was done by Conga Brothers and recorded at Certified Music Records. And the track has a danceable vibe to it just the way we know Mzoe7, a musician-cum-dancer.

He has the moves as seen in the video which by the way features an all-star line-up of multi-award winning cast of Djs like Percy Soko, Charmaine Mudau, Skaiva, DJ Nospa amongst others.

There is a great deal of versatility with Mzoe7 he switches from isiNdebele to Shona and vice versa with much ease. This will ensure that his music reaches out to a crossover audience.

The video and song were launched at a glittering event held in Bulawayo’s Ster-kinekor.

Mjolo the Pandemic follows the success of last year’s Asambeni video.

Asambeni has all the hallmarks of Amapiano videos that you might have seen elsewhere but Mzoe7 put on his personal feel to it. In the video he mixed old and new vibe.
