Mubaira, Zimbabwe – Police have arrested two women from Maoresda Village in Chief Ngezi’s area, Mubaira, for the illegal cultivation of dagga (cannabis), following a tip-off from members of the public.
The suspects, Chipo Mbofana (50) and Grace Kondo (56), were found with a combined total of 100 cannabis plants at their homestead garden, located about 20 meters from their house.
Police investigations led officers to Tekedza homestead, where the suspects were located and interviewed.
Both women admitted to cultivating the prohibited plants and voluntarily led officers to the site. Mbofana had 37 plants, while Kondo had 63, each approximately 45 centimeters tall. All plants were uprooted and seized as evidence.
In a separate drug-related arrest, Nomatter Machaka (28) of Village 2, Mazaretha Farm in Kadoma, was apprehended by ZRP Kadoma Rural for allegedly dealing in crystal methamphetamine.
Police recovered 21 sachets of the dangerous substance during the arrest, following reports that she had been supplying the drug to locals.
Police have commended the public for providing valuable information that has led to the arrests, emphasizing that community cooperation is key to curbing the spread of dangerous drugs.
“The fight against drugs requires collective effort. We applaud community members who come forward with information,” said a ZRP spokesperson.
Authorities warned that drug abuse—particularly dagga and crystal meth—poses serious social and health risks, contributing to addiction, cognitive impairment, and social disintegration.
The police urge anyone with information on drug-related activities to report to the nearest police station. Education, support, and early intervention are critical in reducing drug abuse and building safer communities.
