In a momentous ceremony reflecting the province’s rich history and enduring legacy, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo, officiated the groundbreaking of the Provincial Heroes Shrine upgrade in Zvimba North Constituency.
This landmark event signals a new chapter for Mashonaland West, reinforcing its role as a proud symbol of national heritage and patriotism.
The ambitious upgrade—spearheaded through a partnership between the Zim-China Partnership and the Ministry of Defence—seeks to transform the shrine into a modern, world-class cultural and tourist site.
Planned enhancements include the construction of a guardroom, perimeter fencing, restrooms for VIPs and the public, a mourner’s parlour, and the installation of flagpoles.

These improvements aim to elevate the shrine’s aesthetic and functional appeal, making it more welcoming to both local and international visitors.
During her address, Minister Chombo expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing its role in honoring the province’s fallen heroes.
“This upgrade is a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving our history and heritage,” she said. “We are proud to collaborate with the Zim-China Partnership in realizing this vision.”
With a targeted completion timeline of just twenty days, the project reflects the government’s focus on delivering swift, impactful development.
Once completed, the shrine is expected to emerge as a significant tourist draw and a site of cultural importance.
