After nearly a decade of captivating listeners as a freelancer, the one and only Bhozhongora has finally secured an official contract with ZBC’s National FM!
The beloved star-presenter, born Washington Marimira (48), confirmed the exciting news at the weekend, much to the delight of his legions of fans.
“I’ve been on National FM since 2015, but they officially signed me up in September 2024—imagine that! Now I’m officially on ZBC’s payroll,” Bhozhongora said with his trademark smile.
Known for his larger-than-life storytelling, Bhozhongora was spotted at the SWAN launch at Mbare’s Rufaro Stadium over the weekend, where he soaked up the limelight with co-presenter Kanyemba Bonzo.
The duo, two of the biggest names in local radio, were mobbed by fans who couldn’t get enough of their energy and charisma.
Their morning show has become a staple for Zimbabweans at home and abroad, drawing listeners eager to hear the hottest topics of the day—delivered in Bhozhongora’s signature dramatic style.
His name, which loosely translates to “to demolish,” perfectly captures his approach: telling stories with no filters, no hesitation, and no holds barred.
“I come from a chieftainship in Nembudziya, Gokwe. My father is Chief Makore, and I’m the one who gives the final word in village courts. When I speak, everything is settled—no additions, no subtractions. That’s why they call it kuBhozhongora,” he once explained, referring to his powerful moniker. And when Bhozhongora speaks on air, it’s clear that no detail is left untouched.
From the bizarre to the outrageous, from the hilarious to the unthinkable, his stories have captured the imagination of Zimbabweans.
The show gained even more traction during the Covid-19 lockdown, when National FM and Radio Zimbabwe simulcasted, bringing Bhozhongora’s unique brand of storytelling to even more ears.
For years, fans have been left guessing about the true identity of Bhozhongora. Some imagined him to be a towering figure, while others believed he was a collective of voices behind the mic.
In reality, his stories are rooted in genuine experiences, with Bhozhongora often on the ground, engaging with people and delivering firsthand accounts of the stories he tells.
Outside of his radio persona, Bhozhongora is no stranger to business. He owns a fleet of commuter omnibuses, a bottle store at Churu Farm, and several tuckshops in Mbare Musika, making him a household name both on and off the air.
Nine years in the making, Bhozhongora’s official contract with ZBC is a momentous milestone in his career, and fans can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes him.
