KARIBA—In an electrifying display of talent and charisma, Platinum FM radio presenter Chairman Mupfurutsa captivated audiences on Saturday night at the Offroad Gardens Chawa concert, overshadowing the legendary Alick Macheso.
Known for his humor and unique Chikorekore dialect, Mupfurutsa, a native of Hurungwe, received overwhelming applause from the crowd, solidifying his status as a crowd favorite.
Accompanied by the vibrant Audry Ngwenya, affectionately known as “Hot Property,” Mupfurutsa’s performance was a delightful blend of wit and musicality.
His ability to engage the audience with his distinct accent and comedic flair left fans in stitches, proving that his radio persona seamlessly translates to the live stage.
Meanwhile, Alick Macheso, popularly known as Baba Shero, showcased his renowned bass guitar skills, delivering a riveting performance that included his hit song “Kupa kuturika.” Fans sang along enthusiastically, highlighting the maestro’s enduring appeal in the sungura genre.
The night also featured a polished act from Hkd boss Freeman, who brought the house down with classics like “Joina City.” However, the concert took a darker turn when some of his bouncers were filmed manhandling a reveler who had jumped on stage to join in the festivities. The incident sparked mixed reactions among attendees, with many expressing concern over the heavy-handed response.
Despite the controversy, the concert was deemed a resounding success, drawing a large crowd eager for a night of music and entertainment. Offroad Gardens Director Theresa Molai expressed her satisfaction with the event, hinting at more exciting shows in the pipeline before the year ends.
