Sunday was the last day of the three-day Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival held at Thornpark Polo Club, a few minutes’ drive out of the City Centre.
Music lovers could have been anywhere in Zimbabwe but for those that turned up at Thornpark Polo Club they had a whale of a time.
The tempo increased with each performance up until the last note as Morda, a renowned South African DJ and music producer took charge of the stage as the last act.
The former Black Motion band member gave music fans a show to remember.
For the greater part of his act, Morda or Murda Bongz was busy knob twisting the turntables and then momentarily took to the dance floor to showcase his swivel dance moves.
While the music was deep house, not everyone could follow since Harare is not Bulawayo where deep house is their staple.
In the capital, fans only go as far as Ampiano, yes, the songs they see and enjoy on most music channels.
Just like what Felo Le Tee did when he hit the stage he didn’t try too hard but played some of the popular songs that resonated with the crowd.
The same goes with Musa Keys‘ act. He brought the same energy but then continuously asked the crowd to repeat after him the chant: “Musa We Wanna Party, Wololo Halala, Hey Wena”.
Well, that wasn’t bad except when he started taking shots of Jaggermeister on stage telling fans “Let’s toast it up.”
Another great act was by Mokoomba who showcased their vocal range through two acapellas songs one about Rudo and the other one about their musical journey.
They also performed their own rendition of imbube group Black Umfolosi’s Chikwari. It would be interesting to see if Mokoomba can transform themselves into a formidable imbube outfit. Local act Master H with surprising guest Tamy Moyo gave a great show.
That said, Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival was worth the while so much that Information Minister Jenfan Muswere was part of the beautiful crowd!
