Funeral services, assurance and manufacturing company, Moonlight, has extended its compassion to communities by signing an agreement with a local NGO, Colporteur Missionary to improve lives and fight drug abuse.
The ceremony was held in Harare today where Moonlight also donated 50 cases of mineral water to several communities.
Established in 1995, Moonlight Funeral Assurance has a rich and proud history spanning over 25 years and is one of Zimbabwe’s leading and oldest home-grown funeral assurers. Moonlight has several subsidiaries that include Mashfords Funeral Services, Executive Funeral Services, and J Davies, a Coffin /Casket manufacturing plant located in Mutare.
Since its inception, Moonlight has grown phenomenally to emerge as a giant with Zimbabwe’s most extensive branch network. To date, it has a vibrant network of 45 branches spread across all the country’s major cities, towns, and growth points for increased convenience for clients.
In the latest development, the firm signed an agreement with Colporteur Missionary expressing its dedication to making a positive impact in the communities that it is privileged to serve.
The agreement will see Moonlight and Colporteur working together on an extensive programme to take away drug addicts from the habit, rehabilitate them and then reintegrate them into society.
The programmes will be carried out in all the 45 branch areas of Moonlight. In addition, Moonlight will also provide funeral cover to the drug abuse survivors. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Moonlight group Chief Executive Chomi Makina who has a demonstrated history of working in the insurance industry with skills in Negotiation, Budgeting and Enterprise Risk Management, said the agreement is landmark.
“Moonlight’s reputation over the years has been built on exceptional funeral services provision. However, we are more than just a funeral service provider.
We are a compassionate and caring partner to families and communities who are going through the most difficult times of their lives.
“At Moonlight, we offer solace, support, and dignity to those who have lost their loved ones. But we also want to do more than that. We want to make a positive difference in the lives of those who are still with us, and we want to contribute to the development and well-being of the communities where we operate,” he said.
He added that is the company is honoured and excited to partner with Colporteur Missionary, an organisation that shares its vision and values. Colporteur Missionary has a proven track record of developing communities, empowering people, and creating opportunities for growth and progress.
“Therefore, today, Moonlight is proud to declare its intent to broaden its impact by joining forces with Colporteur Missionary to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing our society today,” said Makina.
One of these challenges is drug and substance abuse, which is affecting millions of people in Zimbabwe and across the world. Drug and substance abuse, particularly by young people in Zimbabwe, is a serious problem that is affecting their health, well-being and future prospects.
Cognisant of the severe toll addiction exacts on individuals, families and communities, Moonlight pledges to amplify its efforts in raising awareness and providing support to those who are struggling with addiction or recovering from it through this synergistic partnership with Colporteur Missionary.

Through strategic partnerships, Moonlight has managed to enlarge its footprint within the region, offering repatriation services to Zimbabweans residing in Botswana and South Africa. In Botswana, it was made possible through a partnership with Babereki Insurance Brokers, a leading Insurance Broker, to provide the Moonlight – Babereki Funeral and Repatriation product.
In South Africa, this was achieved through a series of partnerships with registered insurance firms.
