Urban grooves star Madiz is set to headline Vote in Peace Campaign launch scheduled for 15 July 2023 at Gokwe Centre (open space opposite Farm & City).
The event is put together by Zimbabwe Election Support Network, a coalition of 37 none-governmental organisations formed in 2000 to co-ordinate activities related to the promotion of democratic processes, particularly free and fair elections.
It was established to standardise civil society’s approach to election-related methodology in Zimbabwe as well as to ensure wider geographical coverage and co-ordination of activities.
According to ZESN, the event has already been cleared by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
For those not able to attend the event will be broadcast to a wider audience on Midlands 98.4 FM based in Gweru.
The programme launch runs from 1030 hours to 1700 hours.
And Madiz, whose real name is Itai Madzikura is expected to light up the stage together with Team Malaika, Xiddo and Legion.
As one of the pioneers of Urban Grooves, Madiz coined his sound Rhumba Plus which borrowed heavily from Congolese rhumba, soukous and ndombolo.
Rhumba Plus made Madiz standout from his contemporaries with his signature mellow voice that captivated his fans.
The Gweru-raised singer is known for his suave dressing on and off the stage while his fancy footwork gets fans into delirium.
During his come up, Madiz dropped Kupinda Newe, a hip-hop track featuring Nasty Trixx also from Gweru.
At the time Power FM had moved from Harare to Gweru and one of the prominent DJs Dr Zobha advised Madiz to sing rhumba instead of RnB or Hip-hop. And true to his word, Madiz has the voice for rhumba and good at it.
And in 2010, Madiz dropped his chart topper Kazevezeve before he made a follow up single Amina which was also a club anthem.
To date, Madiz has three albums to his credit — Rhumba Plus, Bluetooth and Madizlicious.
