The Southerton community will host the 21st Century Parenting Workshop at St Clare Catholic Church, bringing together parents, guardians, and young people for a day of practical learning, mentorship, and community connection.
The workshop is designed to address the realities of raising and guiding young people in a fast-changing world. Sessions will cover positive parenting strategies, communication between parents and youth, mental health awareness, academic and career guidance, and access to counseling support.
The program will be facilitated by Dr Duri, Director for the International Coaching and Mentoring Foundation. Dr Duri brings extensive experience in youth development, leadership training, and family mentorship across Southern Africa. Attendees will gain tools to strengthen family relationships, navigate technology and peer influence, and support young people in making informed life choices.
Participants will gain practical parenting skills for modern challenges, from discipline to digital safety. Youth-focused sessions will build confidence, decision-making, and resilience.
The workshop will also provide information on local universities and schools, including programs, entry requirements, and opportunities, along with access to counseling support and guidance on mental health resources available in Harare.
Attendees will have the chance to network with other parents, educators, and community leaders to build a stronger support system.
Workshop organizer Liz Dziva said: “This workshop is for everyone – parents who want to connect better with their children, and youth who want to understand themselves and plan for the future.
“We are bringing together expertise and local resources in one place. I encourage all parents and young people in Southerton and surrounding areas to attend. It’s a chance to learn, ask questions, and leave with practical steps you can use immediately.”
The event will also feature exhibition stands from local educational institutions and service providers, giving attendees a direct opportunity to learn about school programs, tertiary education pathways, and professional counseling support available in the community.
