Banket – From the dusty streets of Kuwadzana Township to dreaming of international pageant crowns, 21-year-old model Evelyn Kasambaira is on a mission to prove that success in the modeling world isn’t just for those from the big cities.
Despite growing up in the small town of Banket, Evelyn’s ambition is as big as the sky, and she is aiming for the stars.
The captivating young model, who first ventured into the world of modeling in high school, is currently signed to Wakandae Modeling Agency as a free agent, but she’s not stopping there. She’s determined to make a name for herself and show the world that talent can come from anywhere.
In an exclusive interview, Evelyn shared her thoughts on some of the challenges facing the local modeling industry.
“Right now, there are very few serious competitive pageants in the country. Most of the ones available are student-focused, which affects the overall growth of the industry,” she said, her passion clear as she spoke.
She also highlighted the financial strain that many models face due to the lack of sponsorship in Zimbabwe. “
Being a model is tough, especially without a sponsor. Financial support is key, and unfortunately, Zimbabwe is facing donor fatigue, and the government is not actively supporting the modeling sector,” she explained.
But Evelyn’s infectious optimism and determination are undeniable. Far from being discouraged, she has set her sights on competing in Miss Tourism 2025 and other local pageants. And with her unwavering self-management, she’s also on the hunt for a sponsor who will help her reach her dreams.
“I want to inspire young girls, especially those affected by economic challenges. Many of them drop out of school and fall into unfortunate situations, but through empowerment and life skills programs, I want to help them make the right choices,” Evelyn said with a warm smile.
In addition to her personal goals, Evelyn is focused on building a future for aspiring models from smaller towns like Banket, where exposure to major modeling platforms can be limited.
“It’s unfortunate that most modeling agencies are based in Harare, and models from small towns often don’t get the exposure they deserve.
Many talented individuals fade before they get a chance to shine,” she said.
“If I get the right support, I plan to create my own modeling agency to help these hidden gems reach the big stages.”
She firmly believes that the modeling world is full of untapped talent outside Zimbabwe’s capital.
“There’s so much potential in small towns, and I know there are future superstars waiting to be discovered. We could have models competing at international levels, like Miss Universe and Miss World, but they need the right support and exposure,” she added.
Evelyn also addressed the negative stereotypes that persist around modeling.
“Unfortunately, society tends to view us as people of loose morals. It’s a perception that holds the industry back, and that’s why many models struggle to make a living,” she said.
“Some even face exploitation, with predators taking advantage of young, vulnerable girls. It’s a sad reality, but it’s something we need to change.”
With her drive, passion, and vision for the future, Evelyn Kasambaira is well on her way to not only transforming her own life but also revolutionizing the modeling industry for young women across Zimbabwe.
Evelyn is calling out for both individual and corporate sponsors to help her and others like her take their modeling careers to the next level.
