President Mnangagwa on Monday handed over Title Deeds to 1,000 farmers under the Presidential Title Deeds Programme at a ceremony held at Craigengower Farm in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central.
The Presidential Title Deeds Programme is a groundbreaking initiative aims to empower farmers with secure land ownership, boosting agricultural productivity and economic growth.
The title deeds handover marked a crucial milestone in the government’s efforts to support the agricultural sector, and the farmers in attendance were visibly thrilled.
In addition to the title deeds handover, the President commissioned production booster kits as part of an irrigation package designed to cover one hectare of irrigated land.
This will enhance crop yields and improve food security, enabling the farmers to increase their productivity and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
The farmers who benefited from the programme are mainly A1 farmers, including war veterans, who have been working tirelessly to contribute to the country’s agricultural sector.
The title deeds and booster kits will go a long way in empowering them to take ownership of their land and improve their livelihoods.
The booster kits are financed by a $6,000 loan from the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC), which will be paid over 7 years.
This is a manageable repayment period, allowing the farmers to focus on increasing their productivity and improving their economic well-being.
Furthermore, the farmers have up to 20 years to pay for their title deeds, which means they will be paying approximately $700 per year.
This is a reasonable payment plan, considering the benefits that the farmers will derive from owning their land and having access to irrigation facilities.
The event showcased the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and promoting agricultural development, aiming for a more prosperous and sustainable future for Zimbabwe’s farming community.
This initiative underscores the importance of agriculture in Zimbabwe’s economy and the government’s efforts to foster growth and development in the sector.
With their new title deeds and booster kits, farmers are poised to take their farming activities to the next level, contributing to the country’s economic growth and food security.
