See why Mt Zion album by Ivy Kombo-Kasi is relevant today as it was then

The Album Mt Zion is a masterpiece!

Ivy has a unique way of writing her songs. Her tunes and rythims are original and none of her songs sounds like the other. With many artistes, you can almost sing all songs on one tune or you can quickly identify the singer just by the intro.

None of that resembles Ivy Kombo-Kasi’s compositions which are all original, unique and different.

Even songs on the same album will have no resemblance to each other. Many say, Ivy Kombo is prophetic in her compositions, writing, as she does, from the scriptures right into people’s current challenges. Take for instance the song “Ndiyaniko Anorwadziwa”, from her latest album “Like Mt Zion”, her voice was an announcement of hope while acknowledging the sorrow that engulfed the society.

“She could inject comfort to those whose weeping had not been cured and whose sorrow had not left them. Ivy Kombo took in orphans, the sick, the poor and them all and prescribed a cure, “Kuna Mwari kudenga”, she said.

From there you could not help but be uplifted when she switched to English, on the album title song where she declares” Psalms 125, we are strong Like Mt Zion”. Who would not be uplifted? When you read the actual scripture then the songs bring meaning. You could then enjoy the other English track there. It’s called I Know Who You Are. Ivy remains scripturally in point repeating the Lord Jesus’ question, “who do people say I am? Who do you say?”

And she points at Peter answering, “You are Christ the Lord.” I have heard lyrics many times before but this is time to acknowledge real lyrical strength and prowess. How did she end up with a song, a track titled “War Song”? Well, she explains how Bishop-General Addy Kasi was leading prayer in the Upperview Ministries twelve days praying and fasting from the 1st to the 12th December 2018 when he just began to sing Praise The Lord For His Mercy Endures For Ever.

This is truly a war song coming as it does from Chronicles 20 where the people of God were told.

The battles was theirs but the Lord’s and they were just to sing that song and the Lord would be fighting for them, which they did, and He did. She switched to another Shona track Neniwo, simply explaining that joy, wealth, righteousness is not for special people but for you too. Hanzi ndaiti ndezvevamwe asi neniwo. Then there is Hakuna Zvinoramba, the track of faith.

Another one is “Handichatya”, probably the most unique. A decalration that I shall not dear because God has spoken. She encourage all of us who failed before that there is a chance again through the lyrics in the song “Hazvinei”.

The album is rich but richer is the composer and singer herself who has defied all odds to keep her talent growing. He main producer Bishop-Geneal Addy Kasi worked with award winning producer Macdee of Eternity Studios who covered all instruments and production. It’s really a masterpiece.

I keep tracking the tracks and it’s a blessing.
