Mashonaland West Division 2B West league is heating up as top teams vying for a spot in the promotion playoffs posted important victories over the weekend to leave the race still a tight contest.
Over the weekend, in match 30, Barcelona Kadoma, Ingezi Hurricanes Academy and Kadoma City FC posted victories, keeping their chances of winning the league title alive. With four matches to go, the league is wide open, and every match counts and its game on.
Ingezi Hurricanes Academy took a brief lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Waverly United on Saturday, but Barcelona Kadoma swiftly moved to the top spot with a 2-1 win over VIP on Sunday. Kadoma City FC also secured a convincing 5-0 victory over Cresta Havens Brompton, cementing their third-place position.
The wins have kept the top teams in contention, with Ingezi Hurricanes Academy, Barcelona Kadoma, and Kadoma City FC still vying for the top spot.
The current standings have Barcelona Kadoma leading the pack with 71 points and a goal difference of +45, while Ingezi Hurricanes Academy follows closely with 69 points and a goal difference of +42, with Kadoma City FC on third with 65 points and plus 31 goals.
However, Ingezi Hurricanes Academy has a game in hand against Waverly United, which was ordered to be replayed, and this could potentially change the standings. Adding to the uncertainty is the abandoned match between Vodds and Barcelona Kadoma, which is still pending, leaving the destination of the league title hanging in the balance.
The 2025 Mashonaland West Division 2B West league season has, for the first time in years, lived up to its billing, delivering thrilling matches, surprising upsets, and a title race that’s going down to the wire.
The league has been a masterclass in competitiveness, with multiple teams still in contention, making it a nail-biter till the end. There is sound sponsorship from almost all the teams.

“Some teams have got prophets who prays before every match, and some have brass band and others drum beating groups who cheer the teams from start to finish,” said a local fan.
However, there’s a cloud on the horizon. The handling of outstanding matches by the Mashonaland West Executive has left much to be desired. Some matches are decided promptly, while others drag on, leaving teams in limbo. This inconsistency has forced teams to make educated guesses about their standings, adding an extra layer of tension to an already intense league.
“We have had an amazing season, but the decision-making has been questionable at times. It’s like they are playing favorites,” said a frustrated supporter.
“I think the executive is doing a great job, but they need to be more consistent in their decision-making. We cannot have matches dragging on for weeks,” said a supporter who asked not to be identified.
“The season has been great, but the administration has been lacking. We need to sort out the outstanding matches and get the league concluded properly,” said another soccer fan.
This coming weekend will see Barcelona Kadoma visiting Berks FC in Chegutu, Ingezi Hurricanes Academy welcoming Vodds Spotlight FC at Rimuka Stadium, and Kadoma City FC traveling to Elmenera.
