Chinhoyi – Ambitious Oden Football Club is gearing up to make waves in the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) as they step into Zimbabwe’s second-tier football division.
The newly formed side, which acquired the franchise vacated by Centenary United, is eager to bring competitive football to Chinhoyi while providing a platform for local youth talent.
Oden team manager Tonderai Mada expressed the club’s determination to reshape the town’s football landscape, where existing teams have struggled to make a lasting mark.
“We saw the need to take on this challenge and be a beacon of hope within our community,” Mada said. “It’s a huge responsibility, but we are committed to uplifting local football and bringing pride to our people.”
Oden FC will call Kuwadzana Stadium in Banket their home ground, joining Chinhoyi Stars and Chinhoyi Rangers in representing the Mashonaland West provincial capital. This sets the stage for three thrilling derby encounters in the town.
Despite having just a week to conduct trials, assemble a squad, and complete registration, Mada remains confident that inexperience will not be an excuse. “Pressure is always there. We might be underdogs, but we are here to change the narrative for teams from this region. We must perform—no excuses,” he asserted.
With a squad predominantly made up of young, local talent, Oden is ready to challenge seasoned teams like Harare City, Black Rhinos, and Golden Eagles. Their coach, Munyaradzi Charuza, is a native of Mashonaland West, and the team has also secured the services of Venon Fombe from Triangle to bolster their ranks.
Demonstrating their commitment to success, Oden FC has invested in team buses for both players and supporters.
Additionally, the club’s leadership recently met with the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo, to outline their vision of elevating the province’s sporting profile.
As the 2025 NRSL campaign kicks off, Oden FC is poised to make a strong impression, injecting new energy and excitement into the league.
