Zim dancehall songstress Bounty Lisa Tuesday could not be drawn into commenting about her break-up with ex-lover and chanter Soul Jah Love but dropped a bombshell saying they never spoke since the split until his death this year in February.
Speaking on Power FM’s afternoon show called Centre Stage hosted by the feisty presenter — Chamvary — Bounty Lisa said she did not owe anyone an explanation.
This follows sharp criticism from fans who claimed if she hadn’t broken up with Soul Jah Love he would probably be alive.
“That’s one thing I don’t want to talk about,” she said, adding that “My relationship with him was private.”
She explained when pressed to comment further about her affair with Soul Jah Love: “I’d rather not talk about it because he is not here. For the sake of peace I don’t owe anyone an explanation on why we split up because everything don’t matter now. A lie is always a lie and people do not even know about my life and when they look for it they don’t find it and when that happens they start talking about my life from what they hear. Some say I stay in Budiriro while others say Fio so it is like that. No one knows me well.”
The 28-year-old Bounty Lisa who is now married with one kid said her romance with Soul Jah Love was on and off stage.
“We were always together even when I managed him I understood him well and he also understood me. There were times he would not show up for shows because he was unwell I would understand that but the promoters would not so that was the difficult part,” she said.
Soul Jah Love died aged 31 on arrival at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital after a long battle with sugar diabetes. Despite his diabetic condition, Soul Jah Love also battled drug addiction which critics say contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to Bounty Lisa.
In the interview with Chamvary, Bounty Lisa said she was unable to visit Soul Jah Love when he suffered a relapse after breaking up.
“You see we never spoke since January 2018 also when we decided to go our separate ways and he never looked for me. When I heard he was unwell I also couldn’t see him because when I got a growth developing on my thigh he never checked up on me. A lot was going at the time after breaking and I wouldn’t want to talk about that,” she said.
According to Bounty Lisa they met at ChillSpot Records in Mbare after she went to record her first song.
“So, I went to ChillSpot to record my song and Soul Jah Love heard the song and he like it. He then asked DJ Fantan for my number and he called me saying he liked my song and at the time I was also a huge fan of his. After a week dating we decided to get married and that is what happened,” she said.
Asked how she felt when Soul Jah Love claimed that he was still married to her on the same show in 2019, Bounty Lisa said at the time she was in South Africa.
“Well, if he wanted to talk to me he would have done so or go to our house or see my relatives because at the time I was in South Africa,” she said.
Last year, Bounty Lisa dropped her EP tiled Gangsta Wife, a persona she holds since her come up.
