Zim dancehall songstress Bounty Lisa Tuesday got some flak from fans over the death of her ex-lover and chanter Soul Jah Love.
Bounty Lisa who appeared on Power FM’s afternoon show called Centre Stage hosted by the feisty presenter — Chamvary — faced sharp criticism from Soul Jah Love’s fans who blamed her for his death.
The comments section was inundated with over 1.8K social media users venting their anger while 13K viewers watched the show on Power FM Zimbabwe Facebook page. The show was also shared on other platforms 33 times easily making the Centre Stage programme one of the most listened to shows on radio.
Soul Jah Love born Soul Muzavazi Musaka was pronounced dead on arrival at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare. He had been battling sugar diabetes.
Many fans claimed that if Bounty Lisa had not split up with the “Chibaba” star probably he would have been alive.
The show which was streamed live on Power FM Zimbabwe Facebook page saw fans falling short of holding Bounty Lisa responsible for the demise of one of the talented Zim dancehall stars — Soul Jah Love who died aged 31.
The star who was subsequently declared a liberation hero by the ruling party Zanu PF was and still loved by a cult-like fan base.
Instead of consoling Bounty Lisa many of his fans were literally baying for Bounty Lisa’s blood while insisting that she removes Soul Jah Love’s tattoo.
Others also criticized her for recording the song Ngwendeza (A Tribute to Soul Jah Love) with help of Passion Java who worked with Soul Jah Love just before his demise.
On the song, Bounty Lisa sings: “Chibabe chadaddy chichasara nani” (How do I live without you) as if they were still together with Soul Jah Love.
The verse irked some fans who said she was not supposed to sound as if they were still an item.
However, in a response Bounty Lisa who was looking elegant in Burberry designer top matched with designer glasses, disabused herself from angry comments.
“The one thing about me is that I don’t look at the comments. This is because fans forget that artists are human, what will happened if I react in some type of way?” she said.
Asked why she recorded the song, Bounty Lisa said she did after a request from Passion Java.
“You see if I hadn’t recorded the song some people would ask again. Just like I attended the burial if I hadn’t done that people would ask why? So at times I do what I feel is right and not to please people. And that song was recorded not as an EX-(Lover) but because I am an artist,” she said.
“My husband knows I did the song and he had no qualms about it.”
Regarding the tattoo, Bounty Lisa said she would keep it for posterity because she had it inked while she was still with Soul Jah Love.
